serious game
Continuum—the game is a collaborative serious game designed to raise awareness about gender-based and sexual violence in the workplace. Played in groups of 4 to 6 players, the game invites participants to analyze different situations, place them on the continuum of violence, and collectively consider appropriate responses.
With the contribution and support of the Serious Game Chair at Sciences Po Grenoble
Objectives
The goal is not competition, but discussion, exchange, and the development of a shared understanding of the behaviors and mechanisms associated with gender-based and sexual violence.
- Observe and Discuss
Players are presented with 6 cards depicting situations inspired by the professional world. Together, they must rank them according to their position on the continuum of violence, from behaviors considered acceptable to the most serious situations. This phase encourages discussion, the comparison of perspectives, and group dialogue in a respectful and supportive environment.
- Check and adjust
Once the cards have been sorted, they are turned over to reveal their correct position on the continuum of violence. Participants can then compare their perceptions, understand certain differences in interpretation, and collectively refine their thinking.
- Responding to Situations
Players then match different action cards to the situations presented. These cards address several aspects: response, prevention, and punishment. This game mechanic encourages participants to collectively consider ways to respond to violence in a professional setting.
Game Contents
The game is cooperative in format and revolves around cards that players manipulate collectively. It is divided into several subsets and mechanical phases:
- "Situation" Cards: A set of cards depicting situations inspired by the professional world that players must observe, discuss, and rank together;
- A classification system (The Continuum): A visual and conceptual framework for ranking situations and behaviors, ranging from those considered acceptable to the most serious situations (representing the continuum: sexist behavior, sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape);
- "Action" cards (Reaction, Prevention, Sanction): Cards that players then match to the proposed situations to collectively consider ways to respond in a professional context;
- A "FRONT/BACK" (Check and Adjust) system: The cards are flipped over to reveal their correct position on the continuum, allowing participants to compare their perceptions and adjust their thinking.
