Regen Lab Chair

Faced with multiple crises—environmental, social, societal, geopolitical, and democratic—public and private organizations are seeking new paradigms that will make economic activity compatible with the necessary preservation of human and non-human life, driven by a strong commitment to sustainability. The goal is to move away from an extractivist model that heavily consumes natural and human resources and toward a regenerative model, by drastically reducing organizations’ negative impacts on the environment and society and generating net positive impacts.

In 2024, the Grenoble INP Foundation launched an initiative to create a chair dedicated to these critical sustainability issues: Regen Lab. The chair began its work in September 2025. Its purpose is to explore, co-design, test, and share the models and tools needed to implement the regenerative strategies of economic actors in our region, enabling them to become more resilient and ensuring their long-term viability.

Two research areas were selected to explore these models that respect planetary boundaries and the social floor: industry and outdoor tourism. These two economic sectors involve significant social and environmental challenges, particularly for the Alpine region.

Our missions:

• Combining innovation in exploration and production to design regenerative models
• Jointly design economic models that are viable and compatible with planetary boundaries and social floors
• Explore the challenges of high sustainability in our region and regenerative models in the industrial and tourism sectors
• Develop tools and methods and provide them to leaders who wish to implement a regenerative roadmap
