SCARCITIES

The SCARCITIES project is part of a trilateral collaboration between National Taiwan University, theUniversité Grenoble Alpes , and the University of Tsukuba, and brings together three research teams composed of experienced researchers and doctoral students from these three partner universities. The goal is to study vulnerabilities in the supply chain of the microelectronics sector. 

The project adopts a two-level analytical framework: 

• A national-level analysis of national policies, resource dependencies, and risk management strategies.
• A sector-level analysis of responses from companies in strategic sectors, such as semiconductors (Taiwan), the automotive industry (Japan), and aerospace (France), to understand how companies are building resilience in different institutional environments. 

France, Japan, and Taiwan all face structural vulnerabilities, but their policy approaches, industrial ecosystems, and capacity-building strategies differ significantly. Understanding these differences is essential for designing effective policies and making decisions at the corporate level.
