Objective

Agricultural cooperatives have a specific governance structure that can foster sustainable development. In France, 75% of farmers belong to one of the 2,300 cooperatives, which account for 190,000 jobs and generate €84.4 billion in revenue. However, their performance levels vary widely. Certain characteristics of these cooperatives can either hinder or facilitate organizational, technological, or environmental innovations. This project aims to better understand the interactions between governance and innovation in agricultural cooperatives and their impact on sustainable performance, with a focus on the wine sector. Based primarily on an economic and management approach, this project also draws on genetics, agronomy, and environmental sciences. This interdisciplinary approach will enable us to analyze the different types of innovations and their interaction with governance and sustainable performance.
