ANR Contract Completed
Methods and Tools for the Open Design of Innovative Products
Objective
The goal of this project is to develop an online open-design platform that provides developer communities with innovative methods and tools to collaborate on the design and improvement of open-source products. The project’s objectives include: 1) characterizing the concept and practices of open design as they are emerging today, 2) developing a set of methods tailored to organizing open-design processes based on current industrial practices and methods, and 3) prototyping and implementing the online platform.
The scientific hurdles that must be overcome to achieve this goal are:
- Define a development process that ensures the convergence of open-source projects, enabling the development of more complex and technologically advanced products.
- Develop an information support system tailored to the needs of communities, incorporating tools for online collaboration, technical data management, and quality management.
- Define guidelines for developing business models that enable entrepreneurs to reduce the risk associated with developing open-source products.
