Abstract

Positive emotions appear to increasingly influence tourists’ behavioral choices, particularly those related to sustainable consumption. This doctoral dissertation investigates the effect of positive emotions on tourist behavior from a post-consumption perspective. More specifically, it aims to address the following research question: To what extent do the positive emotions generated by a memorable tourist experience influence tourists’ sustainable behavior? Using the qualitative methodology adopted, we identified the positive emotions that tourists experience after a memorable tourism experience, which are likely to lead to sustainable behavior. The statistical analyses conducted also enabled us to propose a causal model specifying the capacity of gratitude to promote sustainable behavior.
