The Impact of Art Therapy and Palliative Care in Oncology

We are honored to welcome Fabien Canolle, Associate Professor at Grenoble IAE-INP, UGA, for a presentation titled:

Art Therapy and Palliative Care in Oncology: What Are the Implications for Healthcare Providers?

Fabien Canolle proposes to explore the role of art therapy in palliative care—not only as a form of support for patients, but also as a means of enhancing the quality of life, work, and well-being (QVCT) for caregivers. He will demonstrate how the introduction of an artistic approach in palliative care tangibly transforms the work of caregiving: it opens up a different relational space-time, facilitates expression and communication (with the patient, loved ones, and the team), and produces “traces” (objects, images, narratives) that become vehicles for meaning and coordination. A central focus of the presentation will be mutual recognition: by making visible the patient’s uniqueness and the often-invisible relational work of professionals, art therapy fosters reciprocal recognition (being seen as a person, being recognized as a caregiver) that supports commitment, reaffirms “work well done,” and strengthens the collective.
