Abstract
In the context of digitalization, metals play an indispensable role in our society. However, the reliability of the supply of these metals is compromised by factors such as complexity, globalization, loss of visibility, and issues related to mining activities. In this context, this thesis aims to develop a methodology for managing risks in the metal supply chain. This methodology is based on an exploration of two research areas: supply chain risk management (SCRM) and material criticality. Thus, the results of the exploratory phases, combined with an analysis of the challenges associated with this context, have led to the development of a five-step methodology. These steps are: identification of priority networks; mapping of networks; risk estimation and assessment; risk analysis; and risk mitigation. Furthermore, this methodology was validated by focusing on the raw wafer supply network. In terms of contributions, this dissertation fills a gap in the field of SCRM by proposing a methodology tailored to metal-dependent industries. It also introduces new risk categories by incorporating the concept of material criticality. From a managerial perspective, the research proposes a framework and tools for proactive risk management, such as a framework for network mapping and a risk analysis strategy that supports decision-making for risk reduction.
