Collaborative spaces—whether they’re hacker spaces, maker spaces, fab labs, or coworking spaces—bring together people from diverse backgrounds to “create” through collaboration. What does “making” mean? Is it simply about finding alternatives in an increasingly competitive market? Or is it more about collectively tinkering with a new model for society? One of the goals of this research is to examine the same subject—collaborative spaces— from the perspectives of two research disciplines: architecture and management science.

The question we are interested in is the following:
To what extent do collaborative spaces reflect a renewal in the way we work, and how do they modernize work methods and organization?

The goal of the project is therefore to identify and characterize the new forms of work taking place in collaborative spaces, including:

• By drawing on the role of spatial design, the specific configurations of space and how they are appropriated, and new forms of work
• By analyzing how these new forms of work are becoming institutionalized.
